Twenty Years Down the Line: Door that Beat the Bobbies

The idea behind Rockdoor's inception in 1996 was not only to manufacture stylish doors but also to make them unbeatable in security. The brand's tagline, 'Style Secured,' was inspired by the same mission, which remains unchanged to this day.

Rockdoor is now renowned for its stylish and distinctive door designs, all backed by a product engineered to resist forced entry, providing the ultimate seal of safety for families.

In 1997, when Rockdoor commenced manufacturing doors, composite doors were non-existent in the entrance door market. The market was dominated by door panels. At that time, as the parent company of Rockdoor, we were producing nearly 2,500 panels per week to satisfy the market's high demand.

It was quite a challenge to convince customers to choose Rockdoor over an uPVC infill door, especially since their primary concern was having an insulated door to keep their homes warmer rather than focusing on security. Consequently, many opted for double-glazed windows, which also served as replacements for their old, drafty, and deteriorating timber doors amid the popularity of double-glazing.

An event in 2004 put Rockdoor in the spotlight for manufacturing some of the strongest and most secure doors on the market. The local community relied on newspapers for local news before Twitter, Facebook etc. So, on the morning of Tuesday, August 24, 2004, the Lancashire Telegraph's headline on the front page, 'Door that Beat the Bobbies,' shocked the team behind Rockdoor.

Lancashire Police were using their steel battering rams to force entry into a property. They likely anticipated encountering a door with an infill panel or a timber door, both of which would have been relatively easy for the constables to breach. The infill panel could have been dislodged, or the timber door might have snapped or had its lock broken with little effort

The police were attempting to enter the property through a Rockdoor—a composite door made of uPVC and reinforced with steel and aluminium.

The Police had to enter the property through an alternative way, as the door resisted their battering rams. This led to the catchy headline 'Door that Beat the Bobbies.' The uPVC absorbed the force of the battering rams, while the steel hooks prevented the door from being forced open.

Although this ironic article was published twenty years ago, it’s still fondly remembered by everyone involved. It's reassuring to see that Rockdoor has stayed true to its core principles over the years, consistently delivering stylish and secure doors, even as competitors have shifted from cheap uPVC door panels to GRP composite doors.
